Tidal Engineering Adds to Embedded IEEE 488 Line

Randolph, NJ — Tidal Engineering Corp., has added the SBC488A to its embedded IEEE-488 product line. According to the company, this programmable single-board computer (SBC) has a fully integrated “C” development environment and an IEEE-488 GPIB (General purpose interface bus) controller to provide OEMs with flexible rapid instrument development capabilities without the time and expense of developing a GPIB controller for their products.

Specifically designed as a low-cost turnkey solution, the board is suitable for a wide range of power supply, RF test equipment, and lab instrument applications where IEEE-488, RS-232/RS-485 control is required.

The new SBC488A uses a Zilog Z180 based processor with speeds of 9.216MHz or 18.432MHz, EPROM, SRAM, and EEPROM, a RTC (real-time clock) as well as battery backup. Its IEEE-488 interface provides talker, listener and controller functions, while two serial ports support RS-232 and RS-485 communications. The board measures 6.5 x 4.0-in. and requires 2 watts at 7VDC to 24VDC. Optional peripheral modules include digital and analog I/O, LCDs, keypads, and software.
